Diabetes Medications List

Based on the studies conducted by the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, there are more than twenty three million Americans who have Diabetes. This particular condition has two types: I and II. Unfortunately, diabetes is one of the diseases that have no cure for it is a chronic medical condition. Once you have this disease, you will have it for the rest of your lives. However, this does not mean that you cannot have your condition managed. There exist a lot of medications that serve as a treatment for it. To learn more about the drugs included in the diabetes medications list, read the information below.

Included in the diabetes medications list is Humalog. This certain drug is an insulin type and could be used in treating the two types of diabetes mentioned above. When this drug is injected in your skin, the level of your blood sugar will be lowered in a span of fifteen minutes. However, it is only after an hour and a half when it will be most effective. Also, this drug lasts for a maximum of five hours. But there are times when it is only effective for about three hours so if you want maximum efficacy, Humalog should have to be injected fifteen minutes before you eat. Another treatment included in the diabetes medications list is Thiazolidinediones. This is an oral drug that is used for treating Type II diabetes. This medication works by having your cells’ sensitivity to insulin increased. It also assists in having the glucose produced by your liver decreased. Other drugs that have this particular effect are rosiglitazone and pioglitazone. These medications, like any other drug, have some side effects like swelling and weight gain.

There are more drugs included in the diabetes medications list. Such list also includes Biguanides, Humulin N, Lantus, Sulfonylureas, etc. But if you have diabetes, it is better to ask a prescription from your doctor so that the drug that you will take is appropriate for the type that you have.
