Diabetes mellitus or simply diabetes refers to a collection of metabolic diseases that are categorized by high levels of glucose or blood sugar. This condition is basically a result of defects in insulin action or secretion. Usually, one’s level of blood sugar is controlled by the insulin that the pancreas produce. Said insulin helps in lowering the level of blood sugar in the body. For instance, when people eat, the levels of blood sugar in their body are expected to increase. And to normalize said level again, the pancreas would secrete the needed insulin. However, when defects occur in that particular organ of the body, the necessary insulin will not be produced. And this is when diabetes occurs. The good thing is that there are various drugs that could control his condition, which are classified into three types. To know more about the main type of diabetes medications list, read the information below.

The first type that is included in the diabetes medications list is oral drugs. This particular type is mainly used for treating Type II diabetes. Included in the list or oral drugs are: Ergot alkaloids, Dipeptidyl peptidase inhibitors, Alpha glucosidae inhibtors, Thiazolidinediones, Sulfonylureas, Meglitinides, and Biguanides. The second classification included in the diabetes medications list is insulin. Insulin has five classes under it: Rapid acting insulin such as Aspart and Lispro, short acting insulin like Novolin R and Humolin R, intermediate acting insulin such as Novolin N and Humolin N, long acting insulin like Glargine, and lastly premixed insulin. The third type of medication for diabetes included the other diabetes medications that are injectable.

With the help of the oral drugs and injectable medicine included in the diabetes medications list, one could help manage diabetes. Although it is a chronic medical condition, diabetes could still be controlled.
